how it works
Whether it’s making a journal figure for your latest manuscript, drawing out a methods slide for a conference talk, or illustrating your research organism, I would love to play a part in sharing your research with the rest of the world. Here’s a glimpse into how this process usually goes.
1. You get in touch
If there’s something I might be able to help you with, contact me! We can set up a meeting time and go from there.
2. We chat
This is where we’ll talk about what exactly you’re envisioning. I’ll take notes on the context, background, end goal, and anything else you might think is relevant, and write this up into a short document summarizing the project to make sure we’re on the same page. I’ll also provide you with a timeline and quote. Once this is all to your liking, I can get to work.
3. Research and concept sketching
Whether it’s reading your research papers or looking through 48 species of bats, I’ll do what I can to understand your world a little better. I like this part; I get to learn about so much cool, current research this way.
I’ll also start sketching out my ideas for your figure, and send those to you to see what you think.
4. I’ll draw up a draft
Once we’re both happy with a sketch, I’ll turn that into a vector-based graphic, so it looks clean and professional and can be saved in a high-res form. We’ll send this back and forth a couple times until you’re satisfied.
5. Final version delivered
I provide you with your completed, custom-made graphic.
